Triple Threat Competitive League
We would like to thank you for your interest in the Triple Threat Competitive League (TTCL). Below are some perks for being part of this league
- League participants gain access to open gym hours during facility hours.
- Games are officiated with normal basketball rules. No restrictions!
- After each game a player of the game is selected along with a post game interview which is posted on Triple Threat Social Media outlets.
- Games are filmed and stats are provided via HUDL.
TTCL is different from participation leagues. The level of competition is geared to be more competitive which raises the level of expectations. A participant that is the best player on his or her school team or recreation team may not be the best player in the TTCL.
TTCL is ideal for individuals and teams trying to learn real game rules, game flow, concepts, terminology, and strategies through actual games. The league utilizes high school regulation guidelines to aid participants in adapting to normal game rules.
Participants will have an option to choose a designated skill sessions once or twice a week facilitated by a Triple Threat Staff. Volunteer coaches are welcomed to assist. Skill sessions will last 60-75 minutes. Times and days are shared by the League Coordinator.

Teams
Leagues rules are provided in this league guide. Parents are responsible for being aware of league rules. Teams must have four (4) eligible players to start a game. A fifth eligible player may be put into the game upon arrival, but if the player is not on the lineup that has been given to the scorekeeper, the appropriate penalty will be administered. In the event the team chooses to play an ineligible player, the game will count as a forfeit. A forfeit can also occur in the event a team has less than four (4) players available.
Players in the individual league are provided a Triple Threat League jersey to play in. Jerseys must be returned after each game. Free agents should have black shorts with no pockets. The team listed on the left of the schedule will be the home team and will sit on the left side. Volunteers are welcomed to assist with the score books. In the event a volunteer is not available Triple Threat will utilize its staff.
Only two (2) volunteer coaches may sit on the bench. Playing time is at the discretion of the team’s coach. This is a competitive league so playing time is not expected to be rationed equally. Any family that has challenges with their child’s playing time need to read over “Parents Expectations” further below in this guide.

Skill Sessions
Players have the option to attend a Skill Session ranging 60-75 minutes. All participants need to wear athletic shoes while on the gym floor. Non-athletic shoes are not permitted on the court. Participants cannot wear any jewelry, metals, watches, etc. during games. Concluding a skill sessions players need to be respectful of other players practice time. Players will need to clear the court and remove all of their belongings. Triple Threat NC Basketball is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please monitor your families’ valuables. Participants are assigned a court upon their arrival that they will utilize during the season.

Volunteer Coaches Communication
We ask that any of our volunteer coaches practice good techniques when communicating with their players. We understand volunteer coaches rely on former experiences to guide their style of coaching. This in turn may or may not be difficult for their players to understand, which can lead to a breakdown in communication. Being able to effectively communicate and convey your message in a straightforward way reduces misunderstandings. Coaches want for all of their players to be on the same page; however, it is important that coaches understand how their players receive instruction.
The way coaches communicate with players, parents, staff, referees, and administrators will constantly be monitored. Coaches provide instructions, and during that there may be an assumption that the player has received the instruction with no misunderstanding. Players can misinterpret and process instructions and information they received as unclear and irrelevant. This can lead to a player saying they understand something when they don’t, just to make their coach happy, which in the end will confuse players. Encourage kids to ask questions in a respectable manner, so it can aid them in their learning.
Coaches often provide a lot of instruction, so it is important that players start learning terms and concepts. We encourage our volunteer coaches to have their players translate what they taught and have them put in their own words what was explained to them. We expect our coaches to encourage their players to ask questions so the coaches’ message can be received with purpose. Some players may respond differently to a coaches’ communication style, so make sure players are learning how they handle a coaches’ particular coaching style.
When communicating be clear and honest. Players and their families can respect an honest message at the end of the day. Be prepared to repeat your message many times. Players need repetition to improve their skills. They will need to hear repetitive instructions to reinforce their learning. A message should be consistent and repeated so often that players can anticipate what a coach will say.
Some players can play at their worst when the player and coach do not have effective communication. Silence does not improve poor communication. It is important that players have the space and opportunity to express and share their thoughts and feelings in a respectable and timely manner. Honest communication will enhance a coach and players experiences together which will aid in any players personal development.
Schedule
Games are played on the designated time and day(s) provided at the time of registration. Team records will be updated and available for coaches and families to view each week. Once the regular season has completed a single game elimination tournament will be played towards the end of season for divisions that have four or more teams. Teams will be seeded based on their final record. An Overview of Rules for the games are provided.
Game Rules
TTCL prides itself in not having any game restrictions. Games will have a running clock; however, it will stop at timeouts, free throws, and the last two minutes of each half. Coaches determine their rosters playing time. There are no limitations on what type of defense a team can play although man to man is heavily emphasized. All violations will be called at the discretion of the officials. Once a team has built a 20-point lead, the clock will run during free throws and will not stop unless a timeout is called.

Parent Expectations
Parents play pivotal roles during the journey of any child participating in basketball activities. We always expect our parents to set fitting examples for their children. Support is strongly encouraged. Positive words and affirmations, along with constructive critiques are a great combination for success at home. We inform parents that they should refrain from criticizing other parents, coaches, and players. Do not undermine their child’s coach in the car ride home, or at the dinner table. Subtle, passive aggressive comments on coaches’ inabilities or lack thereof and playing time will not comfort their child. Instead, it enables them to have a bad attitude and make excuses. As a substitute, we ask parents to teach their child what they can do in the future to get a different outcome. Use basketball as a vehicle to teach life lessons they will need as they continue to grow.
We do not encourage parents to coach their child from the sideline. We know this often brings conflicts between the coach’s instructions and often leaves the participant confused and having to choose sides. Participants will need to receive their instructions from only their coaching staff. We ask that families be there to cheer and support, but not coach. Too often a participant cannot execute strategies in their game, because they constantly turn their attention to their family. Parents can be heard, but not seen. The best time for parents to provide insight may be after the game or the car ride home. Parents can shout words of encouragement. Parents should not be coaching their child from the stands by giving instructions and advice.
We know coaches often volunteer their time and experience to teach basketball and life skills. Triple Threat NC Basketball does not encourage nor tolerate any form of attack on coaches. This will disrupt the team’s development. It is completely normal that coaches and parents will not agree on everything. Coaches often are trying to do what is in the best interest of the team, and parents want what is in the best interest of their child. We ask that parents put their focus on being as supportive and encouraging as possible.
Open communication between coaches’ and participants will solve most issues and concerns. However, if a parent has an issue or concern to discuss with the coach, we ask that parents do not approach the coach during a game to discuss playing time, strategies, and performances. We instruct you to walk away and avoid controversial concerns. It is important that families follow the necessary steps to avoid conflicts.
- Have your child share with their coach any concerns and challenges openly. It is important that children voice their concerns. This will assist coaches in identifying and taking the necessary steps to seek a solution to any participants concerns.
- If after your child has voiced their concern and it has not been resolved or identified. The participants parents can schedule a meeting with the coach. This can be done outside of any game or practice.
- If a solution to the concern has not been reached, a parent can contact Triple Threat NC Basketball staff and share their concern. No refunds will be awarded to families.
